THE BUST OF YURI GAGARIN INSTALLED IN THE BRISBANE PLANETARIUM

A commemorative bust by sculptor A.D. Leonov was donated to the Planetarium. Thomas Brisbane by the International Charitable Foundation “Dialogue of Cultures - One World” as part of the implementation and promotion of a project for the development of friendly ties between peoples and countries. The bust was delivered to Australia under the program of the Russian Association for International Cooperation with the support of the Russian Embassy in Australia and thanks to the active assistance of the Honorary Consul General of Russia in the states of Queensland and Victoria, the head of the diplomatic consular corps in Queensland I. Brooke.

“Even when there are some disagreements between countries in various fields, Gagarin’s feat, which demonstrated the unity of science and the unparalleled courage of mankind in conquering space, forever united all countries, all peoples of the Earth,” noted the head of the Russian consular corps in Queensland, Irina Brook, adding , that the Brisbane authorities “were very enthusiastic about the initiative to install the bust.”

The ceremony was attended by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane E. Schrinner, the head of the international department of the mayor's office N. Andronikus, members of the city council, Russian compatriots, and representatives of foreign consulates.

In his video message to the audience, Russian Ambassador to Australia A. V. Pavlovsky emphasized the unfading historical significance of Yu. A. Gagarin’s feat. It was noted that our country, which opened the way to space for humanity, invariably advocates broad international cooperation in its peaceful exploration.
