Bust of Gagarin donated to Copenhagen

On September 2, 2016, the opening of the bust of Yuri Gagarin was held. The bronze sculpture was donated to the National Space Institute of the Danish Technical University (DTU Space) by the International Charity Public Fund “Dialogue of Cultures – United World”.

The Fund “Dialogue of Cultures - United World” continues to implement the project aimed at popularizing the personality of the first cosmonaut of the Earth and promoting the mission of friendship among all peoples, mutual assistance and unity under the goal of advancing universal development.

On September 2, 2016, 54 years after Yuri Gagarin’s visit to Denmark, the citizens of Lyngby-Taarbaek Municipality near Copenhagen made a step closer to the achievement of this goal, when the DTU Space solemnly opened the bust of the Soviet cosmonaut.

The donation, installation and opening of the monument in Denmark were carried out by the joint efforts of the Fund, the public organization “Russian Society in Denmark”, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Denmark and the Russian Center for Science and Culture. The Denmark’s bust was the 25th sculpture installed within the project.

The event was visited by a number of honorable guests:

  • Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Denmark Mikhail V. Vanin;
  • Representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Denmark Artem Markaryan;
  • Vice-President of the Danish Technical University Dr. Martin Vigild;
  • Member of the Executive Committee of the DTU Space Niels Andersen;
  • Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation Sergei A. Volkov;
  • Сosmonaut of the European Space Agency and the first cosmonaut of Denmark, Andreas Enneull Mogensen;
  • Chairman of the Russian Society in Denmark Irina Ivanchenko-Jensen.

The representatives of the Fund “Dialogue of Cultures - United World”, journalists, students and other guests also visited the event. The representatives of the Danish and Russian diplomacy made welcoming addresses, and the cosmonauts shared their impressions of the work in outer space and stressed the significance and originality of the event that united the Danes and Russians on this day.
