In honor of the 220th anniversary of the birth of A.S. Pushkin, the bust of the classic of Russian literature, the great Russian poet, was installed in the Brest Central City Library.

The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Brest City Executive Committee A. S. Rogachuk, Director of the State Institution “Brest Central Library named after A. S. Pushkin” S. I. Gorodetskaya, employees of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus, as well as the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Brest.

“Our library has been named after the great poet since 1945,” its director Svetlana Gorodetskaya said at the event, “and we are very pleased that over 74 years of work to popularize Pushkin’s work, we were noticed and appreciated in this way. This is a wonderful gift both for the 220th anniversary of the classic’s birth and for the millennium of our city.”

This idea was supported in his welcoming speech by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Brest I. Yu. Konyakin, who also emphasized that the installation of the bust would have been impossible without the help of the Dialogue of Cultures - United World charitable foundation, headed by its chairman R. F. Bayramov.

A festive event dedicated to Russian Language Day was also timed to coincide with the opening of the monument to the great Russian poet. The celebration was accompanied by a performance by the city brass band led by V. B. Koval. The musicians performed works based on poems by Pushkin. Then an open-air performance took place on the site in front of the library building.
