THE BUST OF ALEKSANDR PUSHKIN INSTALLED IN THE LYCEUM OF BREST

On October 19, 2020, at the Lyceum No. 1 of the city of Brest, named after A. S. Pushkin, a solemn opening ceremony of the bust of the great poet took place. The event was timed to coincide with All-Russian Lyceum Students Day and the 30th anniversary of this educational institution.

The guests of honor at the festive event were:

  • Consul General of the Russian Federation in Brest I. Yu. Konyakin;
  • Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus A. M. Dashko;
  • Head of the Education Department of the Brest City Executive Committee A. M. Noskov;
  • Honorary citizen of Brest, founder of the Lyceum S. N. Semenov.

The opening of the bust was also attended by members of the organization of Russian compatriots “Russian Society”, representatives of local authorities, the media, and students of the lyceum. At a wonderful theatrical performance, the poet’s poems were performed by lyceum students.

At the ceremony, a greeting was read out from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus, Dmitry Fedorovich Mezentsev, who expressed sincere gratitude to the entire teaching staff and staff of the lyceum for educating the younger generation in the spirit of love for Russian culture and literature.

The bronze bust by sculptor Alexei Leonov was donated to the city of Brest by the International Charitable Public Foundation “Dialogue of Cultures - United World” with the assistance of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Belarus.

The city of Brest, where the name of A. S. Pushkin was given to one of the streets, the university, the lyceum and the library, over the past two years has been enriched with three bronze busts of the greatest Russian poet.
