THE BUST OF YURI GAGARIN INSTALLED ON BREST

On the occasion of the anniversary of the first human flight into space, on April 12, 2021, in the village of Tomashovka, Brest Region, a bronze bust of Yuri Gagarin was opened, installed in one of the halls of the school museum of cosmonautics.

This is the first monument to the famous cosmonaut that appeared in Belarus since the times of the USSR. The solemn ceremony was attended by Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in Belarus Pyotr Frolov, Governor of the Brest region Yuri Shuleiko, representatives of local executive authorities, the public, journalists, as well as students and teachers of the Tomashovo school.

Organizational support for the installation of the bust of Yuri Gagarin was provided by the Russian House in Brest. Test cosmonaut of the Cosmonaut Training Center named after A. Yu. A. Gagarin Valery Tokarev and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, a native of Belarus, who is currently in low-Earth orbit as part of the ISS-65 expedition.

The school museum of cosmonautics in the village of Tomashovka near Brest is the first and so far the only thematic museum in Belarus. It was opened in 1978. The exhibition is dedicated to the Soviet cosmonaut originally from the village of Komarovka in the Brest region - Pyotr Klimuk. The exhibition halls display the cosmonaut's personal belongings, a model of the first artificial Earth satellite, books and photographs, a real shock-absorbing chair and a diving suit. On excursions, museum curators tell visitors and school groups about the history of astronautics and the early years of space exploration.
